L'avifauna / Birdlife

Lanario (Falco biarmicus) – Grosso falcone con coda più lunga del Pellegrino. Sedentario e nidificante localizzato, questo raro falco utilizza a tal fine le pareti rocciose ed i calanchi situati nelle aree geografiche interne.
Biancone (Circaetus gallicus) – Aquila molto massiccia, frequenta le zone boscose per la riproduzione; al contrario utilizza gli spazi aperti per la caccia ai soli rettili di cui si nutre.
Sparviere (Accipiter nisus) – Piccolo e agile rapace con ali piuttosto rotonde e larghe, coda lunga e stretta, testa corta e squadrata. E’ un incontrastato padrone delle zone boschive ove si riproduce e caccia uccelli di piccole dimensioni.
Picchio Muraiolo (Tichodroma muraria) – Uccello splendido, appariscente, di gole rocciose, montagne e cave. Una visione ottimale rivela rosso acceso (fuoco) sulle larghe ali rotonde nere con ovali bianchi Vola delicato ed elegante, sembra una grossa farfalla.

Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus) – Large falcon with longer tail than the Peregrine. Primarily a sedentary species, this rare falcon uses rocky formations and cliffs for nesting.

Short Toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus)- Eagle of considerable size. Found in open cultivated plains and arid stony deciduous scrub areas. It requires trees for nesting and preys mostly on reptiles. Can be recognized by predominantly white underside while chin, throat and upper breast are a pale, earthy brown with barred tail and lightly barred wings.

Northern Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) – A small bird of prey with short, broad wings and a long tail. A major predator of smaller woodland birds.

Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria) – Bird of the high mountains living in rock faces, quarries and caves. Most striking feature is its extraordinary crimson plumage on black rounded wings with white oval spots. Delicate and elegant flight very similar to a large butterfly.

Mammiferi / Mammals

Capriolo (Capreolus capreolus) – il capriolo è un cervide di piccole dimensioni. Il corpo è un colore tra il rosso ed il marrone ed ha una macchia chiara situata nella regione posteriore (specchio anale) che nel maschio è reniforme mentre nella femmina è cuoriforme.  Il maschio possiede piccoli palchi con tre sole punte.
Daino  (Dama dama) – E’ un ungulato di medie dimensioni. Durante l’estate il mantello è rossiccio-marrone maculata di bianco. Lo specchio anale, di color bianco è contornato da una evidente striscia nera e la coda  bianca nella porzione inferiore e nera in quella superiore. I palchi, presenti solo nei maschi, hanno forma a pala e rivolti all’indietro con punte divergenti.
Cinghiale (Sus scrofa) -  Il corpo è caratterizzato da una struttura robusta e compatta. Il capo cuneiforme, il collo breve, il tronco particolarmente sviluppato nella sua porzione anteriore. Il colore del mantello varia dal grigio al bruno scuro o nero. I maschi adulti hanno zanne prominenti dalla mandibola superiore ed inferiore.
Gatto Selvatico (Felis s.silvestris) – E’ un piccolo felino che somiglia al gatto domestico ma si distingue per la coda apparentemente più corta, caratterizzata da anelli scuri ben marcati e per molte altre caratteristiche del disegno del mantello. E’ essenzialmente carnivoro ed è una creatura solitaria.

Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) – A relatively small deer with a reddish brown body and a white rump patch that is kidney-shaped in males and heart-shaped in females. Only the males have small antlers with up to 3 points.

Fallow deer (Dama dama) – a deer of medium size. Chestnut coat with white mottles that are most pronounced in summer with a much darker, unspotted coat in the winter. Light-colored area around the tail, edged with black. Tail is light with a black stripe. Only the males have antlers which are broad and shovel shaped.

Wild boar (Sus scrofa) -  The body of the wild boar is compact, with a large head and relatively short legs. The fur, which consists of stiff bristles and finer fur, usually varies from dark grey to brown or black. Adult males grow tusks from their upper and lower canine teeth. They serve as weapons and tools.

Wildcat (Felis s.silvestris) – A small cat that resembles domestic cats but is slightly larger and can be distinguished by its bushy tail with characteristic dark rings that is typically shorter than that of a housecat. It is mostly carnivorous and tends to hunt and live alone.
