Come arrivare a Casa Nova:
Coordinate da inserire nel navigatore 43° 04’ 541’’ N – 11° 13’ 352’’ E
Il riferimento principale è Roccastrada, da qui, attraversandola, proseguire in direzione Torniella e, poco prima della Località Piloni, si intercetta la Strada del Belagaio, una carrozzabile sterrata sulla destra con cartello indicativo Belagaio. Dopo 8 Km si arriva ad un bivio, sulla sinistra il cancello di entrata del castello del Belagaio sulla destra dopo 200 metri si giunge a Casa Nova.

 ore09:45 inizio del Trekking-Passeggiata sui sentieri della Riserva Naturale e visita di una delle sorgenti di acqua potabile sorgiva, facilmente raggiungibile (anello di Km 9,00 ; dislivello totale m80,00)
ore 12:30 sosta con pausa pranzo ALL’APERTO tradizionale, rustico e gustoso con prodotti locali (polenta, funghi, formaggi, salumi ecc.). Per principi ecosostenibili ogni partecipante è sollecitato a portare le proprie stoviglie (piatto, bicchiere e posate)

Il Risveglio della Riserva

La Riserva Naturale delle Cornate e Fosini vi invita di usare l'arte della fotografia per catturare e condividere i momenti magici della Reserva quando le delicate piogge ed il tepore del sole primaverile convincono la natura di aprire i suoi occhi insonnoliti.
Questa volta il tema è abbastanza libero, basta che le foto riflettano lo spirito di primavera dentro la Riserva.

Si terranno 2 incontri fotografici-escursionistici dove il gruppo sarà condotto dentro la Riserva da una Guida Ambientale Escursionistica per dare ai partecipanti la possibilità di fotografare ed ammirare in compagnia le bellezze naturalistiche che la Riserva ci offre.

The Reserve Awakens

The Nature Reserve "Cornate e Fosini" invites you to use the art of photography to capture and share the magical moments of the Reserve as the gentle rains and warm sun of Spring convince Nature to open her sleepy eyes.
Our theme this season is fairly open - we are looking for images that reflect the spirit of Spring in the Reserve.

We will host 2 Photo Safaris where an authorized guide will conduct the group through the Nature Reserve to give participants an opportunity to photograph and admire the natural beauty that the Reserve offers us.

Send us your photos (max. 2 per person) in .jpeg format by email to info@75avventura.com together with your name, surname and city of residence. All photos will be accepted until May.31st 2013.
The photos will be printed in A4 size and exhibited in our Visitor Centre in Gerfalco from June 1st until July 31st where they will be subject to public voting to determine the top 2 winners.
Prizes will be awarded in August.

Tracce degli Animali / Animal Tracks

E' molto difficile vedere gli animali selvatici, specialmente i mammiferi, nella Riserva Naturale delle Cornate e Fosini perché rimangono nascosti mentre percorriam i sentieri. Ma questo non significa che non ci sono... anzi, lasciano tante tracce della loro presenza e tocca a noi riconoscerle. L'inverno con le sue nevicate ci presenta un'ottima opportunità per trovare le tracce più ovvie dei mammiferi: le impronte sulla neve.
La mattina è il periodo migliore per vedere le impronte fresche prima che perdono la forma col passare del tempo o il calore del sole. Una passeggiata alla ricerca delle impronte richiede una guida, una macchina fotografica, un righello ed un quaderno. Notate bene il numero delle dita, la taglia dell'impronte e la presenza o assenza di artigli. Tenete presente che ci sono spesso differenze nelle misure tra zampe anteriori e posteriori ed a volte ci sono anche differenze nelle impronte dei due sessi (è qui che una guida può essere molto utile ed aiutarVi ad individuare a chi appartengono le tracce).
E' il vostro momento per diventare l'investigatore della natura. DivertiteVi!

It can be quite difficult to get a glimpse of the wildlife, especially the mammals, of the Nature Reserve "Cornate e Fosini" because they tend to avoid the visitors using the trails. This doesn't mean they don't exist in the Reserve... in fact they tend to leave quite a lot of evidence of their presence and it's up to us to recognize the signs. Winter and its snowfall presents us with a perfect opportunity to find the most obvious signs of mammal life: animal tracks in the snow.
The morning is the best part of the day in which to see fresh tracks, before they start to lose their form with the passage of time and the warmth of the sun. Any hike with the purpose of looking for animal tracks is best accomplished with a guidebook, a digital camera, a ruler and a notebook. Take note of how many toes you can see, the size of the print and the presenze or absence of claws. Remember that there are usually differences in the size of fore and hind prints and there are often differences in size between the sexes of the animals (which is why an illustrated guidebook is typically helpful for determining who the tracks belong to).
This is your chance to become a nature detective. Have fun with it!

A cavallo... / Horse riding...

... nella Riserva Naturale delle Cornate e Fosini.

Fare le passeggiate a piedi è solamente uno dei modi per scoprire la pace e la natura nascosta fra le colline della Riserva. Vi consigliamo anche di seguire i sentieri a cavallo per apprezzare i panorami e le richezze naturalistiche da un nuovo ed unico punto di vista. Fare una passeggiata a cavallo è un bellissimo richiamo al passato quando le persone usavano gli equini per spostarsi nel territorio regalandoVi un ulteriore legame con la natura in collaborazione con il vostro fidato animale.
Non pensate comunque che andare a cavallo sia un modo per evitare gli sforzi fisici. In salita bisogna aiutare il cavallo alleggerendosi in sella spostando il vostro peso in avanti ed a volte le condizioni del sentiero (un'albero recentemente caduto o un tratto sassoso) necessitano fortemente che scendiate dal cavallo per vivere un'esperienza, anche se solo temporaneamente, di "trekking a 6 zampe!"

... in the Nature Reserve "Cornate e Fosini."

Short walks and long hikes on foot are just one method you can use to discover the peace and natural elements hidden between the hills of the Reserve. We also suggest following the trails on horseback to discover the impressive views and interesting natural features of the Reserve from a new and unique point of view.
Horse riding and trail riding is a suggestive flashback to the past when people often used horses and mules for moving around the territory and it also provides yet another tie to the natural environment considering the collaboration required between you and your mount.
Don't fool yourself, however, into thinking that horse riding is a sure way to avoid physical effort. When riding uphill you must become lighter in the saddle by shifting your weight forward and there are occasions when the trail conditions (a recently fallen tree or a particularly rocky section) requires that you dismount in order to experience, if only temporarily, the activity known as "6-legged hiking!"

Passeggiata - Walk 30.01.2013

 Con una temperatura di circa 10 gradi e un bellissimo sole, questa giornata di gennaio è stata ideale per fare una passeggiata a piedi nella Riserva Naturale delle Cornate e Fosini . Abbiamo lasciato le macchine nella località della cava di Romano e siamo partiti lungo l'itinerario 10 verso Frasseta. Ad un trivio, siamo andati a destra, lasciando il sentiero marcato con le strisce rosso e bianco del CAI per un sentiero facilmente visibile che passa nel mezzo di un bosco di carpino nero. Ad un certo punto, sulla destra in alto si vede una piccola freccia bianca col scritto "4" ed è qui che si gira a destra per entrare nel bosco a seguire un piccolissimo sentiero che ci porta su una rupe calcarea con una vista meravigliosa sul castello di Fosini, la valle del Pavone e sulla nostra sinistra Castelnuovo Val di Cecina.
Durante la passeggiata, un cinghiale maschio ha attraversato il sentiero davanti a noi con tanta fretta e facendo tanto rumore! Domani sarà l'ultimo giorno di caccia per i cinghiali e l'eco dei cani da caccia e degli spari, che ovviamente non provenivano dalla riserva, rimbombavano nelle valli tra colline circostanti, facendo sperare in un febbraio più sereno.

With a temperature of 10 degrees and brilliant sunshine, today was an ideal day for a hike in the Nature Reserve "Cornate e Fosini." We left the cars parked in the vicinity of the "Cava di Romano" and set out on trail n°10 for Frasseta. Before reaching Frasseta, we came across a 3-way intersection of trails and we took the right, leaving behind the trail marked with red & white stripes, choosing instead to follow the easily visible trail running through a forest of Hop Hornbeam. At a certain point, on our right up in a tree there is a small white arrow marked with a "4" which indicates a very small trail into the woods. Following this trail for about 50m, you suddenly find yourself on a rocky outcrop that provides a fabulous view overlooking Fosini castle, Pavone valley and on your left, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina.
During the walk, a large male wild boar came crashing out of the woods and crossed the trail in front of us, quite obviously in a hurry! Tomorrow is the last day of the wild boar hunting season and while shots didn't come from within the reserve, the air was filled with the echoes of hunting dogs barking and shots firing from the surrounding hills. Perhaps February will be more peaceful.

 Poche persone direbbero che stare in contatto con la natura fa male. Allora come mai ci sono sempre meno persone e famiglie disposte a passare il tempo all'aria aperta? Siamo sempre più contenti di interagire col mondo virtuale, di rimanere seduti davanti ad uno schermo ed essere "ricevitori" di stimoli elettronici. Non dimentichiamo i benefici alla nostra salute dal tempo passato nel verde; fisici, mentali ed anche spirituali. Qualsiasi attività, da una semplice passeggiata ad un'attività estrema come il rafting o l'arrampicata, fa diventare i nostri muscoli sempre più forti mentre più ossigeno passa per tutto il corpo, portando l'energia positiva e l'abilità di concentrarsi meglio. Siamo più tranquilli emozionalmente dopo aver dato spazio alla natura di infiltrare fra i nostri pensieri, lasciandoci più capaci di interagire con gli altri ed affrontare i problemi in un modo calmo e razionale. Cominciate con una passeggiata di solo 20 minuti e vi prometto che sentirete una differenza positiva.

Few people would dare say that spending time with nature is a bad thing. Then why is there an decrease in the number of people and families inclined to spend time outdoors? We tend to interact more volontarily with a virtual world, to remain seated in front of a screen and be receivers of electronic stimuli. Let's not forget the health benefits of spending time in green spaces; physically, mentally and even spritually. Any activity, from a simple stroll to an extreme activity such as white water rafting or rock climbing, increases our muscle strength while more oxygen pumps through our bodies bringing with it positive energy and an increased ability to concentrate. Emotionally we are more at peace after having allowed nature to infiltrate our thoughts, leaving us more capable of interacting with others and dealing with problems in a calm and rational manner. Just try a short 20 minute walk and I promise you you'll feel a positive difference.

Caccia ai Nidi - Winter Nest Hunt

 L'inverno è tipicamente una stagione un po' triste, marcato dalla neve e il freddo, dalle ore ridotte di luce durante le giornate e dal fatto che è un periodo di riposo per le piante e le creature. Ma ogni stagione ha il suo fascino - basta tenere gli occhi aperti! In inverno, quando gli alberi a latifoglie le hanno perse tutte, rivelano i nidi lasciati dai loro abitanti alati per noi da fotografare, studiare ed ammirare. Possiamo avvicinarci a queste "case" per esaminare come sono state costruite e con quali materiali e per indovinare a chi appartenevano, tutto senza dare fastidio ad alcun uccello perché ormai questi nidi sono abandonati. Portate i vostri figli per una specie di "caccia al tesoro" cercando i nidi non solo fra i rami degli alberi ma anche sotto gli angoli del tetto, nella siepe e la macchia lungo la strada o intorno al giardino. Buon divertimento!

Winter is, for many, a slightly depressing season marked by snow and cold weather, by reduced daylight hours and by the fact that it's a resting period for many plants and animals. But every season has its charm - you just have to know where to look! When the deciduous trees have lost all their leaves and stand out naked against the sky, they reveal the previously hidden nests left behind by their winged inhabitants, allowing us to photograph, study and admire them. We can get close to these little homes to examine how they were built and with what materials and we can guess as to which species of bird they belonged to all without disturbing a single bird because at this point the nests have been abandoned. Take your children for a special kind of natural treasure hunt, looking for bird nests not only among the branches of the trees, but also under the rooves of buildings and inside hedges and bushes lining the street or found around the garden. Above all, have fun!

Come votare? E' semplicissimo. Passate al Centro Visite della Riserva nel paese di Gerfalco durante le ore di apertura e prendete un biglietto di votazione. Dopo aver osservato le foto in esposizione nella sala meeting, indicate il numero della foto preferita per ogni categoria e depositate il biglietto di votazione dentro il contenitore sigillato al reception.

E' la prima volta che la Riserva ospita un concorso cosi e farà un nuovo concorso a primavera per festeggiare i colori e la natura che rinasce dopo l'inverno.

Photo Exhibition: Vote the Winning Photograph

 

The Nature Reserve "Cornate e Fosini" is excited to invite you to their Visitor's Centre during the winter months to view the photographs on display taken by the participants of this season's photo contest. Come and vote for your favorite photo, thereby helping us determine the winners. There are three categories in this Autumn version of the photo contest: Flora, Fauna and Godendosi La Riserva ("Enjoying the Reserve").

How to vote? It's easy (if you're visiting these parts of Tuscany). Pass by the Visitor's Centre in the village of Gerfalco during their opening hours and take a voting ballot. After observing the photos on display in our meeting facilities, indicate the number of your favourite photo for each category and then deposit the ballot into the sealed box at reception.

Voting ends February 28th 2013.

This is the first time the Reserve has held a photo competition and has the intention to hold a Spring edition of the contest in order to celebrate the colours and nature that is reborn after the winter.

Get your copy of the book "Camminare nella Maremma Toscana" - a hiking guide for the province of Grosseto. The book is produced by Studio Colordesoli in collaboration with Laboratorio di Educazione Ambientale La Finoria (specialising in Environmental Education).
The trails have been selected, studied and described clearly and with passion by Mario Matteucci. The trails have also been registered on GPS so, having purchased the book, you can download the .gpx files to transfer waypoints and routes onto mapping software or GPS devices.
Available at the Visitor Centre Casa Gerfalco of the reserve in the village of Gerfalco (Grosseto).
